located 15 minutes by car from the city center, this big house is a great holiday base for travellers to discover funchal and the whole island.

Madeira what an amazing island to visit and the villa facilities are excellent there was 13 in our party and 3 generations. was our first family abroad and the kids loved every minute. Was walking distance to the local supermarket and a short bus journey to Funchal the local town. We would love to go back one day for another holiday. The owners were very helpful with any of our needs.

Casa Petronella has everything that is required for an excellent stay.

The house was incredible with everything you could need and very comfortable which made for an amazing Christmas. It's around a 40 minute walk into Funchal but there's a bus stop a 5 minute walk, taxis back are around €9 which is definitely worth it as I wouldn't want to walk back up that hill! There's a supermarket & shops around a 10 minute walk. Funchal was amazing over Christmas with spectacular lights and a lovely atmosphere. The only minor downside to the house is the road noise, but with the windows closed you can hardly hear it and it wouldn't put us off staying here again. Thank you for a fantastic holiday!

We booked this villa to invite our extended family to Madeira (being from the island myself) - visitors from the UK and the USA, adults and kids alike. What a great villa for everyone, not far from amenities or the motorway so you can reach anywhere on the island fairly quickly! Funchal itself was only a short drive away and convenient to get to. I would highly recommend this villa for families who want to visit Madeira.

Very large but homely Villa , excellent amenities throughout , lovely swimming pool , sun trap for most of the day. Close to shops and bars, 5 mins in car down hill to Funchal . Narrow side street entrance to Villa easily navigated . 7 of us really enjoyed our stay , awesome views from bedroom terraces . Very friendly and helpful owners . Highly recommend this Villa.

We had a wonderful stay in Casa Petronella. We celebrate my birthday and was 8 adults and 4 children ( 8, 6, 3 and 0 years old).Lots of space and a lovely pool. We get it heat to 26 degrees because it was in february and it was nice and the children could stay very long in the pool. Close to Funchal and beatyful in the evening with all lights on the mountain. We Rent cars and that is nesseserly if you dont want to walk long. Petronella was very helpfull and Madeira amazing. Want to come back soon

We were 10 familymembers from the age of 9-72. Everyone had a great time in villa Petronella. We used the transfer service and the driver had arranged for Petronella to be there when we arrived. It was worth the prize. The heated pool was worth every euro. The kids spent hours in there enjoying themselves. We also used the car hire arranged by ourmadeira. Great service from them too. The only thing for some of us was that the matresses are very hard and my back was a bit sore every morning. But apart from that, our 12 night stay was wonderful:)

Wonderful villa holiday. 11 people spanning 4 generations of my family age between 2yrs and 82 yrs stayed there comfortably for almost 3 weeks. Very spacious homely feel. Great kitchen and outside space both of which were well used. Pool was great and grandchildren loved it. Child friendly accommodation with stair gates and cots and high chairs made available. Basement games room well used by the boys/men in the party. Main bedrooms lovely with fantastic views from the balcony. Petronella was very welcoming and answered all our queries throughout the holiday. We were very grateful for contact with her especially given we arrived a day late and quite late into the evening and by ferry! She was still there to meet us. We had to land in Porto Santo, a neighbouring island as the plane after 2 attempts couldn’t land in Funchal. Apparently it does happen occasionally because of cross winds and we were unlucky. Eventually landed in Porto santo and spent the day there in an all inclusive resort arranged by easy jet before catching ferry to Funchal in the evening. The ferry was a lovely trip and I would recommend it but not after 36 hrs travelling and waiting in airport terminal for several hours for easyJet to decide what to do with 200 stranded passengers! Can’t fault our holiday at this lovely villa. One comment that might be helpful to point out is whilst the basement bedroom was lovely and particularly for older kids, the bathroom was not really up to the standard of the other 3 lovely bathrooms on the upper floors. Madeira was beautiful and the villa was only 10-15 minutes drive from centre. Good bus service but would recommend a car. We had 2 cars and used them daily. Many memories made here: Reid’s cccktails; Monte cable car ride and toboggan run; lido days; Beautiful beach at machico; lavada walks; very steep climbs in first gear up to some beautiful views. Our Madeira people were really helpful aswell; thanks Norbeta for organising a full day tour on our last day for whole family and then drop off at airport. Highly recommend this for a late flight as you have to leave villa at 10 am. Best “last day” of a holiday ever! We will definitely be back to This beautiful island.

Lovely Villa with everything you need, BBQ was a bit fiddly to light and keep burning initially.

We are 2 families from Finland. We booked this property for 2 week holiday for 2 big families, both with 4 different aged kids. Host Petronella was welcoming us when we arrived to property from airport by taxis. If you check house location from map, there is highway near by, but to the house, you just don´t hear any noise from highway! Food market is located about 3 kilometers walk, so you need a car to go shopping, we found it easier than taxi. First morning we decided to rent small car for food market shopping, we asked help from Petronella, she give an offer and half our later (from first call) we had almost brand new car with good price rented for two weeks! What service!!! View at night is spectacular when all lights in mountain side is on! Pool was heated for us because it was little cold period when we were there. We loved it!!! And easy to recommend!!!

Our introduction, from Petronella, covered everything we wanted to know, and she replied quickly to later questions. Petronella welcomed us on arrival and showed us round. She was very welcoming and had a lot of information about the villa and the local area. She also told us to call her anytime if we needed anything. The villa is a little way out of the centre of Funchal which is a 30 min max walk (we didn't hire a car), but it's all down hill and gives you a chance to see and appreciate the local area. We never attempted to walk back up as there are loads of cabs which cost about €10 (however most cab drivers didn't seem to know where the villa was so make sure you know the address). There is a great supermarket less than 10min walk which has everything you need, they have a great bakery and butchers and everything is reasonably price. Overall we had a lovely stay, the villa is in a lovely quiet location with stunning views and don't be put off with it being near the main road as you cannot hear it. I would recommend this villa to any groups looking for an out of town relaxing location and a good base to explore the beautiful island.

We spent Christmas 2017 here. 2 families with 2 16 year olds and 2 18 year olds. Really perfect for them. Great WiFi, warm pool for swimming every day and the games room (snooker,baby football) was in constant use. Plenty of bathrooms and lots of hot water. The house had Christmas decorations up and we had a lovely stay. 10 minutes walk to the nearest massive and excellent supermarket. An easy downhill 40 minute walk to the centre of Funchal, and easy to get a taxi back for €15 (for both families in a people carrier). We couldn’t have had a nicer holiday - thank you very much.

Sometimes you view villas online and think it can never be as good as it looks. That's where this villa is wrong. It's as good --- if not better. Clean, modern, spacious, private, and with amazing views over Funchal. From the moment we were given a warm welcome from Petronella herself, things were amazing in this property. It has a private gated entrance with, secure parking for the car on the front drive. The villa is set over 3 levels, with a games room (pool table, table football, matted yoga area and a pull-up bar for those looking to do exercise) on the ground floor. There's also a bedroom down here with shower room but we never used it. Middle (main) floor houses the amazing living area and kitchen and a double bedroom, with lots of access to the pool area. The kitchen is equipped with everything you'd ever need, and the TV has all international channels along with a DVD player and a PlayStation3. Upstairs are 3 further double bedrooms, all with their own doors to a large outdoor terrace. The pool area was simply fantastic. A great pool, lots of inflatable toys (the kids loved them), hammock and outdoor dining space, and even a charcoal BBQ. Location itself isn't in the centre of Funchal but on the upper outskirts next to the motorway. We couldn't hear any traffic and it was peaceful at night. There's a supermarket 5 minutes drive away and the city centre is just 15 minutes away by car, or a short taxi hop away. Many people want to be right in the action on holiday, but we would advise staying out here, relaxing and simply taking transport (even the local bus) down into the centre. Can't recommend this highly enough. An amazing property, and we can't wait to go back.

Great week spent by our family. Petronella was very helpful with our numerous requests for taxis and advice on restaurants, supermarkets, etc. Villa is spacious and very well equipped. Outside patio and pool great space to relax and enjoy Madeiran weather.

We have all returned from a wonderful holiday due in no small part to an ideal villa. There was a large age range in the party from 5 months to over sixty but the space and set up was ideal. A cot, High chair, Baby bouncer, toys and the Disney channel were provided for the children, while the adults enjoyed playing pool and table football. There was plenty of space for us all to enjoy ourselves and the pool was lovely to use. We did as asked and kept the cover on when we were not using it so it retained its heat and cleanness. Everything we needed was provided in the kitchen and we loved eating outside on the patio area. We had lovely meals cooked on the brick barbeque. The whole villa was beautiful with large rooms catering for all our needs. The owner met us and showed us round then regularly kept in touch to check we were enjoying ourselves, she could not have been more helpful. We hired two cars, which easily fitted into the large front courtyard behind secure gates but we did have to go through a narrow entrance and passage to reach it so we were pleased we had not chosen to hire a people carrier. Before we went we were concerned about how close the villa was to the motorway but we were amazed how quiet and peaceful it was. We were able to easily reach all areas of the island quickly. I would recommend this villa to any family group.

A great place for the family to get together. Haf everything we needed and more. The kids loved the pool. Would highly recommend and would love to go back

We had a really good holiday in week 7, 2017. The house suited us very well. We were 7 pers. Three generations traveling together and we were able to divide us in the rooms, so everyone was happy. Thanks for Petronella, she was very helpful.

We were very pleased with the villa and the location very close to shops. Took us a while to figure out the bus roots but once we got the hang off it was very easy. We would like to thank Petronella as she was very helpful.Mandy & Family

We arrived for 10 days in November 2016. The property is really large and spacious and really great for large groups. The kitchen is well equipped and it even has a large utility. It was very clean and the living area really is spectacular. The pool is lovely but we are glad we paid extra to have it heated as it definitely needs to be. The things we liked about this house was the space, the pool, the upstairs terrace was beautiful in the morning as you get the sunrise. It was very convenient for the supermarket and a few small bars, no restaurants near by though. The owner was brilliant, she stayed in touch and kept us informed of the mid stay bed and towel change and anything we asked for she sorted out. She couldn't have been more helpful. The views over Funchal are beautiful and it is close to the expressway so we could get other places very easily although a car is essential because although there are buses we found them to be erratic and the stop in to Funchal is a bit of a walk away probably a good 10 mins and there is no info in the villa for local buses or amenities. A few downsides to the house are that there is no heating or air conditioning. We really could have done with some heating in the bedrooms at night although there is a lovely open fire in the lounge and we were given plenty of wood for it. We found the bathrooms to be a little tired they could really do with a refurb. Also the beds were very hard, my husband ended up sleeping on the sofa. The basement area with a bedroom and games room we felt was almost unusable as there was an awful smell down there we assume the drains. There is some noise from the expressway as it is very near by and as its a residential area there were a lot of coming and goings at the side of the house which could be quite noisy. Also be aware that in November we lost the sun in the garden by about 4.30 so you don't get any evening sun. However saying all that we felt that for the money we paid it was very good value for money and I would stay there again.

A total of 12 of us (10 adults, 2 children) stayed at this villa. The property was perfect for us and had all the amenities we needed (we particularly loved the kitchen/living room area and pool!). The location was close to the local supermarket and also the centre of Funchal, which is only a short bus or cab ride away. The owners were very helpful and stayed in touch to ensure we had everything we needed. Overall, we're very pleased and would certainly recommend to others!

Our stay at Casa Petronella was great. It looks exactly like we've seen on the pictures. It's also perfectly for children. The son of my friend (5 y/o) was very happy there! Petronella and Jorge supported us the whole stay on madeira. They've booked some of our trips or our car and they've helped us with every problem. Everything was very uncomplicated. So for wonderful holidays on Madeira we will advise to choose this house. We would like to come back in a few years to hike on Madeira. Many thank's to Petronella and Jorge for those great holidays.
