Casa Do Feitor is beautiful, a stone cottage in a wonderful
working banana plantation. It is ideally situated, peaceful but
close enough to the centre of Funchal for either a walk or a bus
trip into the city centre. The pool was our haven at the end of a
busy day, and. Our hosts were so helpful and a great source of
local information and guidance too. Madeira was beautiful, so much
to explore and enjoy. Thanks again, we hope to be back soon.

We kregen goede
uitleg en wat tips en er stond wat lekkers klaar en water in de
koelkast. Het nette appartement is heerlijk ruim en van alle
gemakken voorzien. Veel kast- en opbergruimte. Grote pluspunt was
de airco in kamer en slaapkamer. We hebben heerlijk geslapen. Leuk
Gastvrouw Buffy dacht
in alles mee, erg gastvrij. We kunnen deze plek zeker aanbevelen,
maar geen brede auto huren ;-)

Absolutely loved staying here! The cottage has gorgeous views
and a serene balcony to relax in the peace. The cottage has
everything you need and we felt very welcome with fresh flowers and
fruit on arrival. The location of the cottage is also excellent,
silence when relaxing on the balcony and around the pool but close
enough to the centre of Funchal and Lido for dinner and shopping.
We recommend using Carlos the taxi driver for the airport runs as
there is a long steep hill to walk up from the bus stop which would
be very difficult with luggage. Carlos also doubles up as a tour
guide recommending places to go and things to do! Buffy, Frank and
the dogs were the perfect hosts and we hope to return very
soon!

We had an enjoyable 8 night stay at Casa do Feitor. The
apartment was spacious, clean and comfortable with everything we
needed. We used the balcony a lot and liked this aspect of the
apartment. The space around the pool and the pool itself is very
attractive and a great addition to the apartment. Parking was
adequate. Buffy was very welcoming when we arrived and showed us
around and was always ready to assist us. The location is great, as
the apartment is in easy walking distance of many great restaurants
and small supermarkets and is close to the centre, Funchal. We did
not anticipate being so close to a busy road / roundabout but the
noise was tolerable and was a distant sound. The grounds of the
apartment are very peaceful. We would recommend staying here and
would come back!

The villa was everything we hoped to find for our stay! It was
a nice quiet, private retreat that was centrally located. We loved
being surrounded by nature and being able to walk to restaurants,
'beach', downtown, etc. Breakfast on the balcony was a nice way to
start our day and the pool was refreshing after our runs. The bed
was comfortable and the amenities ideal for our extended stay. We
did rent a car to more easily explore other areas. Everything was
within an hour's drive. If you can, stay here. You'll love it. We
can't wait to return!

Our first time to this lovely island. Quinta Stanford and our
cottage Casa Do Feitor was a wonderful base for exploring both East
and West Funchal which were within perfect walking distance but
just far enough away to feel away from the busy centre of Funchal.
The accommodation was brilliant. Spotlessly clean, well equipped
with everything you need for a self catering holiday and the
balcony was a lovely private sun trap at the end of a busy day.
Quinta Stanford is like a little oasis of calmness within a banana
plantation. It was a lovely surprise to find the Madeiran wine and
fruit on our arrival - thank you to Buffy and Frank. We hired a car
as it allowed us to explore the island at our own pace. A super
week. We would like to return. Thanks Buffy and Frank for sharing
your fabulous accommodation with us. A real treat. Chris &

Had a wonderful stay at the Quinta cottages, peaceful and
private but really close to everything you need (restaurants, shops
and bars). Nice walk into Old town past harbour and along
promenade, then back along main road. Or head the other way head to
Camaro de Lobos along the shore via the tunnel. Buffy explained
everything on arrival and even noticed it was my wife's birthday
during our stay and came over with a bottle of wine. It was our 4th
time in Madeira, 1st staying in the Casa but won't be our last.
Point to note- If hiring a car, take Buffy's advice and get small
car (we hired Fiat 500 from airport, perfect for 2) as the entrance
is tight, but her directions were spot on. Thanks again Derek &

Et utmerket alternativ til hotell? Vi elsket å bo der. Mye
grunnet at det var stille og rolig. Kun for voksne, og Max 6
personer fordelt på 3 leiligheter. Deling pool område med eierne,
men det er problemfritt. Vi håper å komme tilbake.

Brilliant location as a base for a visit to Madeira. The hosts
were amazing and an absolute mine of information. Old Town and
Hotel zone both within easy walking district but lots of buses
available if you don't fancy the walk. Loads of excellent
restaurants within walking distance. Sitting by the pool, or in the
pool, surrounded by a banana plantation is something we never
imagined we'd be doing. Whilst this place was like an oasis in the
middle of the hustle and bustle of Funchal, the only minor downside
is you can sometimes hear traffic noise but that is easily filtered
out after a while. Oh, and watch out for local football matches as
the football stadium is only a few hundred metres up the road so
things get a bit busy when there is a match on!

Why Bananas and Blackbirds? Taxi driver didn't
know the Cottages, but knew the 'bananas' and during our weeks stay
we were constantly serenaded by Blackbirds! A spacious superbly
equipped cottage with everything you could wish for. Spotlessly
clean and comfortable; safe and secure. Views to the harbour (our
cottage was on upper floor) and set in gardens and a banana
plantation with a lovely large swimming pool. All this yet very
central close to Reid's and the Cliff Bay hotels. Beautiful gardens
of the Magnolia recreational park are opposite with extensive
walks, a fine restaurant and snack bar. Convenient for several bus
routes into the town centre or west to Câmara des Lobos fishing
village. The Red and Yellow hop on/off tourist buses stop near by
which are worth considering for 'orientation' in Funchal but most
attractions can be reached by regular buses with day passes
available for 1, 3 or 5 days. Bus 81 to Nuns Valley not to be
missed! By car the estate is easily accessible to all main routes.
By the way a tour around Madeira by car is nowadays spent mostly
underground!!!! We enjoyed a wonderful stay and are planning our
next trip!

A fantastic location, very walkable to the centre of Funchal
but peaceful once inside the grounds. Welcoming and very
accommodating hosts and a comfortable, clean and safe location.
Incredibly detailed directions removed any concern or difficulties
upon arrival. They do flag that the driveway is narrow and to hire
a small car and they're not kidding! Funchal is a great town and a
lot to do there, hundreds of hire car places and really great buses
around the island so I'd question the need to even hire a car for
your full trip. Would stay again and happy to recommend.

This is a very unique place in the heart of the city - a
mini-estate of banana trees and grape vines. It's clean, spacious,
modern and private. Everything works well and the wi-fi is
especially strong (no problem chromecasting to the TV). The
location is very convenient for the attractions of Funchal with a
variety of bus stops within a five minute walk. If you're not
planning regular excursions outside the city, you won't need a
car.

Madeira is brilliant, but it's useful to pick a base that
makes travelling around the island as convenient as possible. We
think we got this just right in our decision to stay here with Our
Madeira. The walk into Funchal was very acceptable, and taxis and
buses were close at hand - as were restaurants, shops, swimming
spots and a diving school. The accommodation itself was great, with
everything we needed and lots of helpful extras like guidebooks and
tips from our hosts, as well as good communication throughout. We
have a personal highlight though that might not be everyone's top
choice! One thing you'll find on Madeira is you cannot get away
from wall lizards, which are everywhere, and we loved that we
shared our balcony with a lizard couple. No one should be scared of
them as they are very sweet, calm and unintrusive - they'd pop by
to keep us company and maybe eat a small piece of fruit, but are
too timid to venture indoors even if you happened to leave a door
or window open. I hope whoever follows us in staying at the house
will be kind to them! :)

This Casa was an absolute delight to stay in for our 10
nights in Funchal, a wonderful oasis in the midst of busy Funchal.
The Casa lacked nothing and worked perfectly for us to get out and
about exploring the island using public transport, the pool is
generous and lovely at the end of a hot days exploring, fantastic
local bakery called Sesamo for great bread and cakes and local
small supermarket. The Casa is light, bright, airey, spotlessly
clean with excellent cooking facilities and equipment, bed very
comfortable and the balcony is lovely to sit out on anytime. Hosts
are genuinely interested in you, welcoming and
knowledgable.

Wonderful
We're almost reluctant to review this property but that would be
selfish of us. Having found it, we don't want to share it. We can
honestly say that we have never stayed anywhere like it. It's like
a different world - peace and quiet reign. The cottage was
beautifully furnished and had everything you could need - a fully
fitted kitchen, balcony, TV , dvd player, books, Wi-Fi. There is
even a washing machine and a tumble dryer available. Every home
comfort is provided. Outside is spectacular with vines and banana
trees. The large pool is beautiful with loungers and umbrellas. We
spent every morning at the pool and sometimes returned for a swim
later in the day. Buffy and Frank made us very welcome, as did the
dogs who came to see us most days. The property is well within
walking distance of the centre of Funchal and all amenities
including supermarkets and restaurants. We've fallen in love with
Casa do Feitor and hope to have many more holidays there. We really
can't praise this beautiful property highly enough.

A great place to stay and relax
Our stay here was part of our 50th Wedding Anniversary
celebrations. The accommodation here did not let us down. The
comfortable apartment is fully equipped for self catering although
there are many places to eat out close by. We had a car and
although the entrance is a bit tight after a while presents no
problem. Owners Frank and Buffy made us most welcome. We would
definitely recommend this property.

Clean spacious and comfortable
Apart from a couple of niggles, which could have been avoided
had the owners, who were on holiday, left someone on site to ensure
that guests were OK, this is a def recommend from us. Do not, like
us, make the mistake in hiring a car, unless you are a professional
driver, or a masochist, or own an Insurance Company. The only
access to the cottages is so difficult that we elected to largely
stay on site, as the thought of having to return through the
entrance spoiled any excursions

Perfect hideaway
Based on previous reviews these cottages had a lot to live up to! We stayed for, sadly, only one week in Casa das Vinhas. It certainly lived up to every one of our high expectations. Right from the start, walking up through the vines and bananas to our front door, we felt instantly at home. The surroundings are lovely, private, calming. The cottage itself didn't really feel like a rental property, more like someones little home we had borrowed. A lovely atmosphere. Everything there we could want. We swam, laid by the pool, drank wine on our patio, generally chilled out.....exactly what we needed and this cottage delivered it in spades !! The sea, Funchal's shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance. We didn't have a car and didn't miss one. The owners, Frank and Buffy were away for the first few days of our stay but came to see us once they returned to ensure all was well and were we happy and did we need anything. That was such a kind personal touch which made us feel so welcome. They also came to say goodbye when we left. Its not often that we say this but we would definately return to Madeira and without doubt we would return to "our" Casa.

Lovely pool, beautiful gardens, tranquil location
The cottages were set in beautiful gardens and we loved
listening to the birds singing away while lazing by the pool. The
gardens were also very nice with a mixture of grape vine, banana
plantations and an abundance of bright, brilliant flowers. So
pretty. We enjoyed eating breakfast on the terrace every morning
and a post dinner drink in the evening. I suppose it helps that we
had glorious weather and not a drop of rain during our stay. I love
older properties and both the cottages, the Quinta and its grounds
oozed old world charm. We found the owners to be very pleasant. On
hand when you needed to ask them questions but not at all intrusive
so very easy to relax. The cottages were cleaned at the end of the
first week and all towels and bedding were changed. The only niggle
some might have is that you could hear distant traffic noise. We
live in an area where there is no passing traffic so I'm used to
total silence at night and am a very light sleeper. Therefore I
closed the bedroom windows at night. Not a problem in May but I
could imagine the cottages could be quite warm during the summer
months. I'm sure most people could however leave the windows open
at night and not be disturbed by the traffic noise. Perhaps at some
point, air conditioning could be installed in the bedroom, even if
you have to pay extra for it locally? The cottages provided
everything we needed for a two week break. The kitchen was small
but we only eat snacks and breakfasts in the cottage anyway so
suited us fine. Lots of wonderful restaurants within walking
distance of the cottages, which was an unexpected bonus. Excellent
value for money and I would return again.

Loja da Lenha
Thank you to Buffy and Frank for a very comfortable stay in
the delightful Loja da Lenha. The accomodation is light and
spacious. It is tastefully decorated and well equiped. The Quinta
is well located near the centre of Funchal giving good access to
all parts of the island yet provides a haven from the busy
surroundings. Buffy and Frank are excellent hosts. Both welcoming
and attentive but not intrusive.

Perfect Retreat, really peaceful & relaxing
stayed here in September 2013. These cottages are a perfect
retreat, really peaceful and relaxing we had the lovely large pool
to ourselves some of the time. But even when all 3 cottages were
occupied there were only 6 of us sharing the pool and there were
plenty of sun umbrellas and sun beds. Each cottage also has a patio
area or a balcony. The patio areas have a table and 4 chairs and
sun umbrellas which made it ideal for eating outside in an idyllic
location surrounded by banana trees and vines. All 3 cottages are
decorated and furnished to a high standard. Casa Das Vinhas where
we stayed was very well equipped, with ample storage. Frank and
Buffy are perfect hosts who helped make our stay very pleasant, we
were made to feel very welcome from the start. They were both very
helpful answering any questions and dealing with a couple of minor
issues we had. The cottages are close to the centre of Funchal,
where there is a good selection of restaurants and bars. Madeira is
a beautiful but hilly island, but if you don't want to walk there
are plenty of buses and taxis. The views from the cable car are
excellent.

Casa Do Feitor- The Factor's House
What can we say that hasn't already been said before, what a
wonderful apartment, facilities and location! We booked after a
recommendation from a friend who stayed in one of the other
apartments this July. I think that Casa Do Feitor is the best of
the three options, as being upstairs you get the fantastic views
with light and airy rooms, not to mention the private covered
veranhah. The apartment was spotless and fitted with everything you
could really wish for. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. One of
the many helpful guides in the apartment was a comment book written
by previous guests with plenty of recommendations on places to eat
and visit. We found it very helpful. We hired a car for a week but
it wasn't really necessary, you can walk into Funchal easily, there
is so much to see and do. If you are thinking of visiting Madeira
then any of these apartments are a must! Thankyou for a fabulous
stay on a very beautiful Island, if we get the chance to come again
WE WILL!

Regular visitors to Madeira
We spent our second week in Madeira at the Casa de Feitor. Our
first floor accommodation was excellent. The accommodation is set
within a working banana and grape producing property and has been
tastefully converted from old working buildings. The surroundings
are peaceful and it is hard to believe the centre of Funchal is
only a short walk away (the hill to the property is not for the
faint hearted) The accommodation is smart and comfortable kitchen
well equiped with modern cooker, micro and dishwasher. Bed
comfortable and everything clean. We almost had the pool and garden
to ourselves as the other tennants were out and about most of the
week. But had the other two properties been fully occupied there
was plenty of room for everyone to be quiet and private. The owners
were away during our visit, but one small problem was quickly
sorted out by the agents. We have no negative comments and really
enjoyed our stay. Suggestions: We choose self catering
accommodation because my husband likes to cook local dishes when on
holiday. For us a couple of extra oven proof dishes would have been
useful. We were also anxious about hot dishes on the glass table.
We were lucky in that the weather was really warm and pleasant but
Madeira can be cool and rainy at times so a TV can be handy.
Unfortunately I have poor eyesight and found the small screen of
the TV almost impossible to watch unless I sat directly in front of
it.

Excellent apartment close to shops, etc.
We stayed in the upstairs apartment of this complex which
allowed us to have great views over the capital of Funchal and the
sea. We were met by the owner on arrival, who is really nice, and
showed us around the complex and property. The facilities were
exactly as described and the property was nicely furnished, clean
and well equiped. It even had a really good fan oven which we found
unusual for properties overseas. We could only find BBC world
service to watch on the tv and it might have benefited from an
i-pod docking station. Otherwise a fantastic apartment. Being on a
small banana plantation made it very unique and added to its charm.
The only thing to be aware of if you have a hire car, make sure it
is a small one - perhaps no bigger than Class C - as the entrance
is VERY narrow and can be a challenge. Being close to the town
centre was a dream and you could walk to the centre of Funchal or
the "hotel area" which had lots of shops and numerous restaurants -
all within a 15 minute walk. Alternatively you were relatively
close to the main roads allowing you to explore the island by car.
We really liked the cable car trip from Funchal to Monte where you
can see the tobaggons that travel on the road; the caves near St.
Vincent; and Port Montiz (where you can see the Atlantic Ocean with
all its power); the views looking down onto Nuns Valley; and the
dinner and dance show at the Casino (15 minutes walk from the
complex). We would highly recommend it.

A very special place.
I'm rather reluctant to comment on Casa do Feitor at all; I
would prefer to keep it a secret. That being said, this is a very
exceptional place to stay. As other reviews have stated, it does
have everything one could reasonably wish, provided to a very high
standard. The location is also exceptional, somehow combining the
tranquility of an almost rural retreat with the convenience of
immediate access to the city centre (an easy walk into town often
got the juices going for a delicious meal in one of the local
resturants). I really can't imagine a better place from which to
explore the powerful beauty of Madeira.

Perfect
We spend 2 weeks in May 2009 in the casa de feitor and we were
absolutely delighted. Pictures can't show how beautiful and perfect
this place is for a holiday. The apartment was perfectly clean and
in the best condition one can imagine. Rooms are quite spacious but
not lacking the coziness you need to relax and unwind. The kitchen
is well equipped. The biggest asset of this place is its location
in the middle of a banana plantation but only a short stroll from
the city. To enjoy Funchal you don't need a car, but if you plan to
explore the countryside (which you should) you'll we able to park
the car inside the property in an absolutely safe place. The thick
walls of the house helped to keep it cool in the day. From the
windows you have a nice view on the city of funchal. The owners are
charming and helpful, you really feel welcome in this house.
Conclusion: This place is absolutely recommended! Chris
