We stayed at this property last year in January and returned again this January. Mécia met us and showed us around the property, is very helpful and responds quickly. It is a large house with good views and is well equipped. It has a small pool plus lots of outside space for eating or sitting. Kestrels fly past regularly. We find the beds a bit firm for us but too bad. It was a bit short on small pots and pans but some appeared the second week. The entrance is a bit tricky with a car as it is on a steep slope. Parking is on the property and one needs to be careful as the turning space is quite tight. But this did not put us off returning. The beach front which you can see from the property is a 20 minute walk down the steep roads or a 4 minute drive. There is a good supermarket in Calheta as well as two sandy beaches protected by large sea breaks. Calheta is a nice town with reasonable access to other parts of the island especially by car. We have enjoyed our stay both times.

für unseren Familienurlaub (alles Erwachsene, keine Kinder), war es perfekt! genug Platz, damit man auch mal Raum für sich hatte und soviel unterschiedliche schöne Plätze draußen zum verweilen. Und die Aussicht war unglaublich!

Veľmi pekné, čisté bývanie s krásnym vyhľadom na oceán. Veľa priestoru vo vnútri aj na vonkajšie sedenie, ležanie. V kuchyni sme našli všetko čo sme potrebovali. Aj keď sme si nepriplatili vyhriatie bazénu, dal sa použiť. Dobrá poloha na plánované výlety. Komunikácia výborná. Jediná malá pripomienka k posteli v jednej z troch spálni - staršia s pružinami, menej pohodlná. K vybaveniu by som doplnila ďalekohľad, asi by sme videli aj delfíny. Ľubica

A stunning villa in a beautiful area, certainly the best beach we found. The views are stunning and the villa very spacious and well equipped. Eating in the BBQ area in the evening was just idyllic

Beautiful house. Lovely owners. The photos don't fully do it justice. The house is very well designed and finished beautifully. Lots of amenities with well fitted out kitchen. Plenty of indoor and outdoor areas to sit in both shade and sun. The house is kept very clean. Mecia was very pleasant and accommodating as our flight was delayed. We had a fabulous week. We had the pool heated and definitely worth it. The location is a nice quieter spot. I would recommend the restaurant at the bottom of the hill, approx 200m away. Also as Madeira is very hilly make sure to get a car with enough power.

Wonderful house in a wonderful location! Very spacious house, tastefully furnished and decorated, and equipped with everything that one needs. We enjoyed the pool, the sun terrace, the patio with the barbecue, the billiard table etc. The views are stunning, and the location is great because of the proximity of Calheta beach and the short drive to Funchal and other places on the south coast.

Nice and really large house at the hill side with nice views. Pool is smaller than it looks on the photos, though. Quite norrow and steep road towards the house.

Casa muy amplia y bien equipada

Had a great stay in this lovely villa in July. What a view! The terrace and outside areas were even better than the online pictures show and everything inside was clean, comfortable , spacious and well equipped. It was an easy 20 minute walk down to the marina and the centre of Calheta, and a hot and sweaty 25 minutes back up again. Very steep but a safe walk. If preferred it is easy to find a taxi outside the supermarket and it was a quick €5 ride, so easy for shopping. Additional thanks to Mecia for her welcome and help during our visit.

Like other reviewers have already mentioned, the photos don't do the place justice. It is so much more better! Loads of space, amazing pool and a decent local supermarket around. Calheta beach is just down the hill too. Def need a car to get around btw. Our Madeira sorted us out with a really good car rental recommendation. There was also great communication and we really enjoyed the bbq, stunning views and the house is very well equipped with the necessary amenities. Will def come back!!

The house is stunning throughout and well managed. The owners are lovely and helpful people, who stayed in touch during the days we stayed there. You really have everything you might need in this house and all is perfectly organized and clean. We got great service from Ourmadeira helping us out with finding a suitable rental car - for great price and super service from the rental company they cooperate with. Do pay the extra for the pool heating, you wont regret it! :)

This was one of the nicest and most amazing Airbnb experience I/we have had so far. The house is not like one of the numerous typically soulless Airbnbs accomodations - the whole place inside and outside are so lovingly decorated and rich in details and has so much character. It has been super clean and the kitchen etc are very well equipped. The view is super nice, especially out of the pool :) We enjoyed our dinner so much on the terrace. Communication was great and the homeowners very accommodating and flexible with check in and out. Thanks for the nice experience - if we should visit Madeira again, then definitely again in this lovely accommodation!"

We stayed here for ten days and I have to say Madeira is on top of covid. Tested on arrival at the airport was very organised although we waited 12hours for the result,meaning we couldn't leave the villa until all tested negative. Maria the villa owner offered to get some supply's in for us so we could enjoy our first night and even organised a restaurant to delivery us a meal. The villa is nice and spacious and very clean with the most amazing views and a great pool. The only fault I would say is the water for showers sometimes is cold. I would suggest a bigger fridge freezer for the amount of people. Other than that our stay was great and the madieran people are just lovely. Would return again.

A stunning place, with a wonderful host. I cannot recommend highly enough!

A beautiful house and location. Diana and Mercia were great hosts especially Mercia who went out of her way to help us when the airport transfer driver got lost. The accommodation was much larger than we thought it would be and was well equipped with just about everything that you could want and more. The walk to the villa from the beach is long and steep and so isn't really suitable for elderly people or those who are unfit but a taxi is always an option.

Awesome house and the view was great. Very peaceful location but close enough to everything you need. Felt like a home not a rental.

The house was a delight although not the cat with the kittens who appeared at the dining room doors on most occasions when we got back from day/evening out. The pool was cold even though we paid to have it set at the highest temperature other than that it was a lovely villa with great views. Others have mentioned about the tightness of the turn into the drive and how steep it is but when you have done it a couple of times you are used to it. Diana was excellent when we had a problem with the tv. Sorted very quickly. Really the problems mentioned are minor the overall experience was very good.

This place is fabulous! We came with 6 people from the age of 25-90 and we all really enjoyed staying here. The villa is huge and very pretty, on the outside and the inside. There's plenty of space for everyone to enjoy the views of the sea and the mountains, and relax by the pool, play some pool, eat outside and explore the island. Our whole experience was great and we felt very welcome; definitely a superhost!

Die Realität hat die Werbung übertroffen. Wir (4Personen) haben ein Feriendomizil vorgefunden, das in seiner Lage und Großzügigkeit bemerkenswert war. Geschmackvoll und mit Detailliebe eingerichtet, fehlte es uns an nichts. Das Raumangebot ist üppig und die Raumaufteilung lässt selbst bei Vollbelegung zu, dass man bei Bedarf eine "ruhige Ecke" für sich findet. Das gilt auch für den Außenbereich mit mehreren Ruhezonen. Alles sehr sauber und makellos.

The Villa was really beautiful and had everything you need for a relaxing holiday. My mum walks with a stick so parts of the patio were really difficult for her to negotiate, especially by the pool which is accessed by a steep ramp or narrow steps. Other that that she was fine. The villa is very comfortable and the hosts are very helpful. They had left provisions in the fridge for when we arrived which was lovely after a long journey. Our Madeira arranged everything for us including the transfers from the airport and arranged to have our hire car delivered the next day to the villa. The driveway up to the property is very steep and narrow and takes a little getting used to!! The views from the patio are beautiful and we had some lovely sunsets when we were there. There are lots of outdoor areas, some under cover and we even made Paella in the giant pan on the barbecue outside!! Overall we had a very relaxing time and would definitely recommend this property to others.

Casa Julio - the house is much bigger than we expected. Pool table. Swimming pool. Very large verandha. Best airbnb house we have ever stayed in. Host Diana is very nice. Portuguese people are very friendly. Madeira island is a very well organised tourist island. We went on trips for Levada walking, Porto Moniz, Nuns valley, Funchal and they were all very interesting. Recommend in particular tobaggan ride in Funchal, Levada walking and trip to the North of the island. Casa Julio - the house is so great that we are hoping to go there as a whole family for another holiday in Calheta, Madeira."

Casa Do Julio is the perfect sunshine getaway!! I visited Calheta with my wife and our best friends in May 2018... and the property was the ultimate base for us. Everything about the house was absolutely perfect... well appointed... immaculate and we all loved every minute of it. Casa Do Julio was enormous and had plenty of space for all of us to not get under each others toes. Not to mention the stunning surroundings, views and location. We will all definitely return and enjoy the house again!! Thank you!

We had a wonderful relaxing stay at Casa do Julio. The house is high up on the hill, with views of the sea, and the terrace gets sun all day. The house is well equipped, comfortable and beautifully clean. Calheta is a short drive away, with a supermarket and restaurants. Thank you so much, we really enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful villa with stunning views. Access road to property a little narrow if you have a large vehicle. Tastefully furnished but lacking in parts, no wardrobe or drawers in small bedroom and no mirror in another double. furnishings more like collectors antiques rather than suitable holiday home, I would have worried if small children were staying. Outside areas stunning and beautifully maintained. It would have been nice if certain provisions had been provided as part of welcome pack, coals for bbc and bin bags rather than being asked to provide them ourselves. We arrived late evening and although bread juice and fruit left, no milk. However, on the whole a beautiful villa in stunning area.

Our holiday in casa do Julio was amazing. The house is even better than on the pictures. Hope we can come back one day.

N'hésite plus c'est à la Casa Julio que vous passerez des moments inoubliables..

Loved this house,with is gorgeous infinity pool and stunning views.Really well equipped,pool table was fun,barbecue area great and all the time stunning views of the sea.Great location,easy access to everywhere on the island.The only note of caution I would maybe add is the driveway up to the house is not for the faint hearted,pretty steep ,but hey so is most of Madeira!

Mecia the villa owner met us on arrival and showed us around her lovely villa. My wife, daughter, son in law and I had a great week. The villa is set high above the village of Calheta, with a long frontage facing South over the sea with mountain views. The village is an easy 30 minute drive from the Madeiran capital, Funchal. The local area is very pretty, green with running streams. The large 4 bed villa had everything, including a pool table which got very good use and an infinity pool. I'm sure we'll be going back.

6 adults stayed for a long holiday. There was excellent support from the family- directions from the airport were accurate, we were met at the villa and shown around, the owners were attentive to our needs eg brought logs for the wood burner and sorted out internet problems on the same day. The villa has super views across both valley and beach/ coastline. Outdoor space is very well organised and equipped with tables, chairs, recliners and BBQ with table and chairs (that we used for breakfast). The villa was really clean and well looked after by maids. The kitchen was friendly to use. It was good to have a games room. The dining room was spacious and well equipped. We would certainly stay again. The restaurant at the bottom of the drive is excellent. The bars and restaurants on the marina below are excellent also- good food and lovely staff. There is a good supermarket there as well. There are plenty of coffee shops/ bakeries up the hill in the village also. We had not visited the west of the island before and were very impressed with coastal villages including Jardim do Mar and those between Calheta and Funchal. The description is right- you do need a car. Watch the entrance to the drive. We had a large vehicle and we really had to pull mirrors in, and approach the drive from uphill in order to avoid damaging the vehicle. We had two small problems with kitchen electrics- I only mention these as the family sorted them out on the same day.

Casa do Julio was a beautiful quality villa and much bigger than we thought. We were met by the lovely owner who showed us round and gave us an information booklet. The villa has great views all around and the patio area is completely private. The restaurant below the villa is excellent but our favourite was New Era on the marina front. You do need a car and the steep driveway takes a bit of getting used to but once we realised it was easier to go around the block and approach it downhill then it was much easier. We went to Funchal and the cable car is definitely worth the trip, we wished we hadn't bought a return and had come down on the toboggans. We also drove to Sao Vincent and along the North Coast which is stunning but our favourite place was Jardim do Mar which is right next to Calheta. We would definitely recommend this villa. It was really easy to book via Our Maderia and we were impressed with the efficient service and driving instructions etc. That together with the lovely welcome we received makes such a difference to your holiday. We had a wonderful welcome from the owner of the villa who took us on a tour of the property. The villa is beautifully decorated and furnished throughout (being the owners former family home) and provides everything you might need. The views out to the sea, overlooking the beach at Calheta are wonderful as you relax on a sun lounger or in the infinity pool. This was our second stay in Madeira and Calheta itself so we took things a bit easier. I can recommend you visit Calheta Diving Centre if you enjoy scuba diving, Pizza Naye in Loreto for wonderful pizza and Convento do Vinhas restaurant at the bottom of the road for a nice meal. We also visited the Porto Moniz natural pools again for a fun afternoon's sunbathing and swimming. Just one point to highlight is that a number of the surrounding properties do have dogs (and cockerels!) that stay out in the open and can make a bit of a racket at times, but we generally tuned it out. There is also some building work happening close by with the occasional noises being heard (cement mixer etc.) Overall we really enjoyed our stay and the villa was perfect for us.

Property was great - lots of space and light, was clean and comfortable. The pool was great for cooling off on a hot day whilst enjoying great views out to sea (you can see dolphins swimming with the boats!). We found Calheta to be a great place to stay with plenty of local bars/restaurants to eat out, but also a great Base from which to explore other parts of Madeira. The only very slight negative was the noise from the local dogs and cockerels from early in the morning!
