Set on the tranquil sunny hills above Calheta, and close to amenities, the present owner, Elisabeth, sympathetically restored and refurbished her great grandmothers cottages to create this lovely character air-conditioned villa. Relaxing by the tranquil pool and large barbecue area you will appreciate its traditional traits and views.
The very large living space with two seating areas, dining and fully equipped kitchen are all contemporary furnished and a delight to enjoy. All bedrooms are large and benefit from en-suite bathrooms. The air-conditioned large living space runs the whole of the ground floor, and includes two separate seating areas, each with its own flat screen cable TV, a dining table for 6 and a fully equipped contemporary open-plan kitchen and features the beautiful original wood stove and oven. All doors open to the front terrace that affords wonderful views of the countryside and ocean, and includes a herb garden for guests use. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning and the same wonderful views.
Accessed via one set of steps, the self-contained double bedroom is spacious and accesses via the hall, and what used to be the front door the rear of the property. The second staircase leads to the bedroom hall (which also has a door to the rear of the property) and the second double bedroom and twin bedroom.
There are many walks around Calheta and easy access to the plateau of Paul da Serra, with its many levada walks, makes this villa perfectly located for walking in Madeira and for enjoying a lovely holiday surrounded by the beautiful Madeira countryside.

On the lower ground floor, the large pool is surrounded by a deck with sun loungers, the lawn and a small kitchen garden as well as a large covered and built-in traditional barbecue (with sink and electric 4-ring hob and fully equipped) and seating area, perfect for those balmy evenings.

Swimming pool heating:
Heating is optional and costs 140,00€ per week for 24°C, paid in
cash on arrival.
A supplement of 30,00€ per week applies for each additional degree

Pool heating can be provided and should be requested at least one
week in advance. Should it be requested after arrival at the villa,
the minimum charge applicable is one week, which is payable from
the time the heating is turned on.

Sehr liebevoll gestaltetes Haus. Jedes der drei Schlafzimmer verfügt über ein eigenes Bad, Küche, Wohnzimmer und Essbereich sind sehr schön eingerichtet und gut ausgestattet. Bei unserer Ankunft standen einige Einkäufe bereit und sogar eine kleine Spielecke für unsere Tochter war vorbereitet. Der Pool und der kleine Garten sind sehr schön und bieten Raum für Entspannung und Abkühlung nach Wanderungen oder anderen Aktivitäten. Die Besitzerin ist sehr freundlich und hat auf jede kleine Anfrage sofort reagiert. Die Aussicht auf den Atlantik ist sehr schön und der Strand von Calheta ist mit dem Auto schnell zu erreichen. Gute Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sind ebenfalls in der Nähe. Insgesamt ein sehr schönes Haus um einen entspannten Urlaub zu verbringen.

Das Haus befindet sich in einer sehr guten Lage, zum Strand und Ort ist es nicht weit und auch die weiteren Teile der Insel sind schnell zu erreichen, vor allem das Wandergebiet Rabacal. Das Haus hat eine wirklich schöne und moderne Innenausstattung. Das Babypaket war super, es gab sogar ein Tipi und jede Menge Spielzeug. Der Weg zum Haus führt stetig bergauf durch relativ enge Straßen und ist etwas abenteuerlich, aber gut machbar.
The information given in the listing was accurate, and it is as beautiful as the photos suggest! The property was clean and well maintained. The owner was very welcoming. Would certainly recommend this property. It is a good idea to have a car as it is a long walk up from the marina at Calheta (though there are taxis around).
This was a fabulous villa in which to spend a holiday. The directions to the villa were excellent and we were met by the owner when we arrived. The owner made us very welcome and took us on a tour of the villa, and we were greeted with some food and drink in the fridge. The villa was spotless and very well equipped. The pool was also kept very clean and maintained regularly although we never saw it being maintained. The view from the villa was superb. The surrounding area was very quiet. However any visitors need to be aware that the road to the villa is very narrow and steep. A car is essential if you want to enjoy the island. We would recommend the villa.
The property has been lovingly restored, well maintained in a quiet location. Ideal if you have extended family staying with you. We had a lovely time relaxing by the pool and on the numerous patios/outdoor seating areas. The house is well equipped and plenty of room for 6 people, did not feel crowded.

Elisabeth was patiently waiting for us while we were searching the villa after 8p.m. She did welcome us very friendly. The villa was cosy and so we felt good at once. The rooms were very stylish furnished, very clean and well-maintained. On the whole we enjoyed every hour being in this very nice villa and want recommend it to our friends. Breathtaking beautiful :-)
We had an amazing time staying in this beautiful house. Elizabeth welcomed us wonderfully, thinking about all the smallest things to help make our stay comfortable and easy especially with our little one. The house was very well equipped, it had everything you could need. The garden was lovely and the veg and herbs were a bonus. We found the location was superb for exploring by the island. Casa das Orquideas is simply the most beautiful house we've ever seen! Staying for 9 nights we would highly recommend this property. It's setting in the beautiful Calheta is breathtaking. The home is modern yet traditional. The owner Elizabeth has thought of every detail (even pool toys for our little boy) which makes your stay even more enjoyable. The herb garden and pick your own strawberries were a hit with the family. With easy walking access to the local shops and restaurants and a 5 minute drive to the marina, Casa das Orquideas is perfectly placed. Whether laying beside your pool or napping in the hammock you are guaranteed to become the definition of relaxed in this outstanding property.
This is a lovely villa. We were welcomed by the owner, and found an excellent range of food, milk and even beer in the fridge left for us. The pool area is lovely with full day sun and plenty of shade. The house is very clean, modern and has a lovely garden with herbs, strawberries and vegetables. Madeira is an interesting, mountainous island where driving is difficult.There is plenty of attractions, plenty of walks, but we enjoyed relaxing by the pool best. We would certainly recommend the villa.We loved our stay.
What can we say, this is an absolutely stunning villa. Beautiful bedrooms with exceptional en-suites. Everything you could need has been provided including a well stocked fridge and larder. Elizabeth is a wonderful hostess, welcoming you to her villa and ensuring your stay is as memorable as the villa itself. The views of the Atlantic are breathtaking and can be enjoyed while relaxing by the lovely pool. Enjoy cooking outside and then relax in the hammock.
