Calheta Heights - Check-in and Driving Instructions

Please print these driving instructions and have them with you when you arrive in Madeira.

If you have a car and are driving to your villa or apartment, please follow these instructions. Using GPS will take you via old and less easy roads and unusual locations:

  • Leaving the airport, take the motorway (Via Rápida) West in the direction of Funchal and after this to Ribeira Brava. Travel for 34. Km.

Airport Ribeira Brava

  • When you reach the end of the motorway (approximately 35 minutes) keep on the right hand lane and follow the signs to Ribeira Brava - Ponta do Sol.

  • The slip road will lead you to a roundabout. Take the first exit to Ribeira Brava and drive towards the sea for 1.4 km. You will reach another roundabout. Take the 1st exit into the tunnel, and you will now carry on for 3.9 km until you reach the roundabout of Ponta do Sol.
Calheta 1
  • At the end of the tunnel, you will reach another roundabout; take the 2nd exit, signposted Ponta do Sol and drive through another tunnel. At the end, carry on along the coastal road, and you will enter another tunnel. At the end, carry on along the coastal roa,d and you will enter another tunnel.
Calheta 2
  • At the end of this tunnel, you will come to the roundabout of Ponta do Sol; on the left, you will find a petrol station and a mini market. Take the 2nd exit into the next tunnel and drive for 2.8 km.

  • At the end of the tunnel, at the roundabout, turn sharply right into the next tunnel (signposted Calheta).

    Calheta 3
  • At the roundabout (1,6Km), take the first turn-off, signposted to Calheta, drive through the next tunnel for 1,8Km.
  • Take the first exit, signposted to Estreito da Calheta, and 50 metres on, just before a blue fountain, take the first left into Caminho dos Moinhos.
  • Drive uphill along a narrow winding street. Drive slowly as this is a two-way street.

  • At 160 metres, you will pass a disused, stand-alone high factory chimney. 

  • Continue climbing and at 500m you will come to a high and long stone wall on your left. You are almost there:

  • Follow on past the next left-hand bend and you will see a fountain just after a small street on your left.

  • Continue for a few more metres, and the entrance to Calheta Heights, no. 69, is on your left (light grey gate).

  • Ring the doorbell, and Dalila will open the gate so you can drive in.
